What I am about to show you took me by surprise. After all, it isn't often you get an email with a video attached that says Varsity Blood Finger Puppet Theater. Basically we have a slasher movie that looks fairly standard with some genre regulars (including the ever so lovely Debbie Rochon) that needed a boost. Something to separate it from the rest of the neo-slasher flicks coming out this year. Enter a simply concept. Finger puppets. The creators of Varsity Blood have given us a short finger puppet theater. This is basically one of the kill sequences in the film with acted by... finger puppet. Finger puppet gore and acting but voice overs from the film itself.
I may not have been on board prior to watching this theater, but I'm a sucker for clever gimmickry. I'll definitely be giving Varsity Blood a shot, and even if you don't I urge you to check out this funny, gory promo video. My only qualm? CG blood! Unnecessary! Get practical.
This football season, Hogeye High’s Warriors and cheerleaders are out for blood. Unfortunately, someone is out for theirs, and they’ll be forced to take one for the team. After the big Halloween football match, the students are joined by an uninvited guest dressed as their high school mascot armed with a bow and arrow, a battle-axe, and an insatiable appetite for butchery. Soon, they find themselves fighting for more than the winning score as terror becomes the name of the game. Featuring “enough inventive kills to keep even the most rabid gorehound happy,” Varsity Blood is “a supremely entertaining slasher rollercoaster” (Hysteria Lives!).
