I have no nostalgia ties to this one. I didn’t see Garbage Pail Kids The Movie as a kid even though I was familiar with it. I loved the trading cards; Hell I still collect them. That doesn’t necessarily mean that the characters, with the funny name and ironic imagery translate well into living, breathing, alien things. Scream Factory knocked this one straight off so many bucket lists, it was impossible not to release, but I have to admit that I am not a fan of the movie. I think they did an excellent job with it.
Reasons I didn’t dig it? I though the characters looked bad, not like the characters on the cards themselves and I was really annoyed by their voices. I didn’t get the particular characters that I wanted to see which made me beg the question, who got to decide which characters got made? It felt like there are more popular, memorable cards out there. Why stoop to these unmemorable faces. The movie itself goes into a generic 80’s animation plot #34 pretty quickly and only finds an end because the mandatory run time was up. In my mind the creators were going for something that felt more like a Muppet or Fragile rock, but only got poor caricatures of those with more Munchie puppeteering than Muppet.
The movie looks good and the disc comes with a tons of interview extras to check out. I know some of you are excited for this release solely based on the nostalgia factor, but Scream Factory has given you plenty of ways to get even more into the movie.

It Doesn't Get Any Grosser Than This… Especially in High-Definition!
Your favorite grime bandits come to life with all the farts, snot and vomit you can take in this hilarious film full of "gross-out humor" (The New York Times). When Dodger (Astin) accidentally releases the Kids from their magical trash can prison, all smell breaks loose. Despite their offensive personal habits – and attitude problems – Dodger soon becomes fond of the Kids. But when Messy Tessie, Foul Phil, Valerie Vomit and the whole misfit crew join his fight against thuggish bullies, their efforts just might land them behind bars at the State Home for the Ugly!
