Ghost Story is a must purchase Horror movie. It’s perfect for the chilly winter months with snow on the ground, but could easily be watched during the scariest points during the Halloween season. I can’t stress just how much I am in love with this movie. When I was a kid WPIX showed the movie, we taped it off TV and I would watch it on repeat. I fell in love with the music and performances. The makeup and effects are 1981 gold. Watching it off TV for the first time I even missed just how sexy this movie was. I wouldn’t know until years later that Ghost Story isn’t just spooky; it’s seductive. It’s unrelenting, and it’s terrifying. Scream Factory gave me a real treat this year in their release of a favorite of mine on Blu-ray.
I adore the transfer. This is one great looking Blu-ray complete with nice blacks and grain structure. It is clearly the best the movie has looked. The traditional cover art is on front and includes a really cool alternate cover choice. The extra package is filled to the brim with interviews. The simple things on this release matter most to me include the radio spot and the trailer. These are things that hooked me as a kid and still creepy me out.
You watch Ghost Story because it actually has substance and plays out like a supernatural mystery of sorts with plenty of violence and sexual intrigue to keep attentions at a pique. The other great reason to enjoy Ghost Story is to enjoy the Chowder Society and the concept behind a story telling group that gets together to tell stories and get loaded. I love those damn guys. There are brilliant jump scares that are well timed to make you piddle balanced with some practically effected corpses that are completely memorable.
