Horror anthologies are a great way to get your short film in front of a lot of people quickly when they won't bother to click a free YouTube link, attend a film festival or support an independent artist for a few dollars at a Horror convention. They're usually a mixed bag with some great stories, a few shit stories and short films that shouldn't be seen at all. I feel the need to disclaim any support for new anthologies with these remarks because I'll be damned if I attach my support to one of these things unseen given the lack of consistency in quality as of late. I still can't get the taste out of my mouth from Tom Holland's portmanteau collection of pure trash.
Now that I've disclaimed myself into a rather cynical position, Legless Corpse Films has a new one coming out called Volumes of Blood. I'm excited because these guys put out great looking physical media releases. They also have Nathan Thomas Milliner in their staple whose short film work is solid. Jakob Bilinksi is also involved who did the enjoyable Three Tears on Bloodstained Flesh. The general foundation of the project beginning as a program at the Daviess County Public Library is somewhat of a unique way to start a short film compendium.
With plenty of relatively unknown names having previously been attached to some rather diverse film projects, I think there's a shot at enjoying a few of these individual stories though I worry about continuity, wrap story (if any) and consistency of aesthetic vision. April 26th you'll have the chance to check it out on DVD and Blu-ray with a steel book purchase option. Very cool packaging here.
From Legless Corpse Films:
SYNOPSIS: Five tales of dread interwoven when a sociology student gathers several of his friends on Halloween night at the local library to help him create a new urban legend with deadly consequences; Lily is in for a late night of researching and needs something to keep her going. It isn't until she's approached by a mysterious stranger that her luck may change... for the worse; a typical night of work for a librarian becomes a classic ghost story with a modern twist. Sometimes you can't keep a bad book down; Sidney is allowed to stay after hours to study for a test. It's not until she suddenly awakens in the darkened library that she realizes the horrifying truth of what lurks among the stacks of books after midnight. She better pray she doesn't become the prey; Paige faces regrets that she'd do anything to take back. When an ancient and arcane spell book literally falls into her lap, she decides to make a grave decision. Be careful what you wish for, it might just kill you.
