Dark fairytale adventure Lost in Random rolls up this September

At EA Play we got a nice long look at Lost in Random, the upcoming combat adventure from Zoink Games, makers of Fe. In this coming-of-age fairytale with a Tim Burton-esque style, you play as Even, a little girl searching for her sister, Odd, who has been abducted by an evil queen. Along for the adventure is Even's friend Dicey, a six-sided die that scampers around on little stick legs when it's not clinging to her shoulders like a backpack.

Lost in Random pits Even and her cute companion cube against a menagerie of twisted monsters as she battles her way to the evil queen. Armed with weapons like bows and slingshots, Even can also collect coins to buy cards, which give her new attacks and abilities. And it's an adventure, too, so there are bizarre NPCs to meet and chat with, some helpful, some decidedly not.

I love the art style and animation, especially seeing Dicey excitedly scurry around the battle arenas to consume energy cubes that fall off monsters when Even lands a hit. It's adorable in a rather dark and twisted way. When Dicey has fully gorged on energy, it can be rolled to unleash special powers, like a time freeze, giving Even a chance to take a breath and select her next attack.

There's no price listed yet, but Lost in Random will roll up on Steam on September 8.

Following a few years as a regular freelancer, PC Gamer hired him in 2014, probably so he'd stop emailing them asking for more work. Chris has a love-hate relationship with survival games and an unhealthy fascination with the inner lives of NPCs. He's also a fan of offbeat simulation games, mods, and ignoring storylines in RPGs so he can make up his own.
