Crystal Plumage Films screening about a year ago when they showed a double feature of Demons and Bronx Warriors. It wasn't my first 35mm experience, but it was tremendous. The crowd was intense. They "got it" which is to say they understood what it meant to be at a theater laughing and enjoying the experience of seeing a movie in the theater. No cellphones. No talking. Just cheers and applause and seeing great movies the way they were meant to be seen. ON FILM!
This season Crystal Plumage has a new slate of pictures for you. Yes, 35mm screenings do seem to have a season. Each April I notice a new line up emerges from a few of my favorites film groups. It's my favorite season and it runs damn near through Halloween. I never get to attend all of the screenings I would like to or more importantly obsessively must attend, but I try. You should too, especially with a line up like this.
The first screening coming April 19th at 7:30 is a double feature: CITY OF THE WALKING DEAD aka NIGHTMARE CITY and JOYSTICKS. While I'm ashamed to admit that I have not as of yet seen Joysticks I have been assured by both CPF and a few celluloid heads that this is a must attend event. Now I can speak strongly about City of the Walking Dead. I have seen this film two times on the big screen, once at Exhumed Films 24 Hour Horror-thon some years back and the other at the Italian Splatter Fest at the Colonial Theater in Phoenixville, PA. For fans of zombies... GO TO THIS SCREENING. Fans of Italian horror or simply Italian cinema... GO TO THIS SCREENING. For those who swoon over Hugo Stiglitz and his facial hair or wonder... DO NOT MISS THIS EVENT!!!
Full details on this event from CPF:
CITY OF THE WALKING DEAD aka NIGHTMARE CITY (1980)
A crazy Italian zombie flick where the zombies are fast and are over-running the city. From Umberto Lenzi (director of Cannibal Ferox)
We have been DYING to show this one for a few years now. This amazing film is 88 minutes of perfection. Arcade games, boobs, and Joe Don Baker!
We wil also be showing a new trailer reel for our buddy Newt Wallen's film MIDNIGHT SHOW!
Show starts at 7:30PM SHARP!!!!
One thing I'd like to note about this event is that there's a new trailer reel out there for Midnight Show, The Kentucky Fried Movie made for Grindhouse fans like you. The last screening I attended at the Forum Theater also featured a similar preview which floored me and nearly stole the show. Get in on this event.
The next even is a screening is JUST BEFORE DAWN. This is a slasher cult classic picture and will feature the director himself making an appearance. Experiences like these are to be cherished and go down for fans as memorable, once in a lifetime memories. I hope to attend this as well though it appears to be a bad weekend for me. Here are the full event details:
We are extremely excited to announce a rare screening of JUST BEFORE DAWN with the director Jeff Lieberman (Squirm, Blue Sunshine) in house for a Q&A. If you haven't seen this film, you are in for a rare treat. It's an amazing backwoods slasher. Come on out and check out this beauty in 35mm (by the way, this is the cleanest print in the world!). This is the UK version of the film and contains some footage that was never in the US release.
Friday May 10, 2013
@ Forum Theatre Arts Center
Starts at 7:30 SHARP!!!!
We will have silk screened posters for this show by Charles Moran (he did our amazing DEADLY SPAWN poster)
PLEASE NOTE: Jeff Lieberman will be charging a signing fee. I do not know how much he will be charging. He will take pictures for free.
One final note, please make sure to follow Crystal Plumage Films HERE on FaceBook. If you're attending one of their events, make sure you sign up for the event on their event page there. It's a great way to stay in touch with your community of Millimeters Faces.
The 35mm circuit may not last forever, but by supporting shows like this, you can help in your own way. Network. Share these events. Keep film on film. We'll update you with more events as they are announced. And by some of their amazing merchandise and the merch from any vendor present. I love my Crystal Plumage Beer Cozie and my T-shirt.
Good horror fans support awesome 35mm companies. See what I mean about the merch?
