The Human Race (Macabre/Xlrator DVD) - An All Too Human Race

Gaming horror has been rather good as of late with 13 Sins and Cheap Thrills (let's slide that one into horror because it's so damn good).  The Human Race from Xlrator under their Macabre subdivision involves a race to the death that promise violence and a fast pace. The name maybe a nice play on words but overall this one falls flat. What we get from The Human Race is a somewhat slow, uninspired work that tries to play on the successful gaming horror films of the past couple years. It brings one thing to the table. Gore and violence, but without a story to back it up, the movie is a hard watch.

Here's the synopsis from Xlrator:

Eighty strangers from all walks of life are ripped out of their daily lives and forced to participate in a brutal race to the death. The rules are simple; follow the arrows or you will die, step on the grass and you will die, get lapped twice and you will die. Only one participant will survive. Race or die. There can only be one winner, but who will survive and for what purpose?

Xlrator usually puts out a good product and don't pretend that this is a horrible flick. It certainly has moments that are entertaining, but maybe it's the promise of the extreme that let's me down. Even the cover that shows a one legged man fighting for his life is more exciting than most of the action in this picture.

I suppose that The Human Race is some old man in suburbia's fantasy... step on the grass and you die! Of course if you get lapped twice you die, so it's also that same old man's worst nightmare.

You can check it out for yourself available July 22nd on Amazon.
